What is Fire Mitigation?
When a fire affects your home or business, fire mitigation is needed to get your property ready for repairs. During the mitigation process, damaged materials such as walls, floors, cabinets, etc., will be evaluated and either removed or cleaned. Besides the visual damage from the fire, secondary damage from smoke and soot is often the more extensive mitigation work needed. Various methods can be used such as removing non-salvageable materials, cleaning salvageable materials with chem sponges, use sealants and ozone treatments.

Contents cleaning is the process which addresses the affected contents in your home or business after a water or fire loss. Depending on the source of the loss, your contents can be affected by various contaminants such as water, fire, soot, odor, and mold. After a loss, contents will be inventoried and evaluated to salvageable and non-salvageable items. Contents cleaning is usually completed in a cleaning facility away from the loss site. After evaluation and cleaning has been completed, salvageable contents will be brought back to the original loss site or stored at a secured storage facility until the loss site is ready for the cleaned contents. Non-salvageable items will be disposed of after the owner agrees with evaluation.

How do I know if I need Contents Cleaning?
Because mold and other contamination can occur with flooding, it is important to have the affected contents properly cleaned and disinfected to prevent further damage. This all depends on the severity of flooding, how long the water has been sitting and Category of water damage. It is not always required. Though with fire, smoke and soot are the likely contaminants that would need to be cleaned from the contents affected within the structure.
Our IICRC certified technician will help make the determination on contents cleaning and disinfecting, and keep you informed during the process.
In some cases, a pack-out of contents in the affected area is needed, even if the contents were not affected. For instance, the entire living room flooring may need replacement, therefore ARS technicians would take inventory of the items in the required area(s), carefully pack them and relocate them to a safe location of your choice. There are various options available for such service; pack-out and storage off property, pack-out and storage on property, or pack-out and storage in pod, on site. Whatever you decide is more convenient for you, we are here to help.
Our IICRC certified technicians will help determine if pack-out is needed.
